You Might Be a Witch If…

What dry flowers say about you

Dear friend,

Do you like spells, potions, or hexes? Have you ever dyed your own clothes or burned a letter? Do you ever mess around with a hot glue gun? Do you own any books by Robin Wall Kimmerer? If you answered yes to any of that then you’re going to love the latest from VJF:

WE’RE GOING DRIED!

That’s right, dried. Dry flowers last a lonnnnng time. That’s obviously cool for the consumer, but it also means I can keep them stored (without an electricity hogging cooler) until someone needs them. It also means I can expand my reach to include you out-of-towners because dry flowers are easy to ship. It’s a win-win-win.

I have lots of stuff in the shed drying. I will keep you posted when it’s ready! Exceptions will be fresh columbine in the early spring and our beloved tall larkspur which blooms from late spring to fall. Love her.

Mark Your Calendars:

If you didn’t get to snag the C’s Red cold hardy fig tree at the Goldenhour Books sale, don’t fret. I have more and I will be posted up at White Pine Wilderness Academy in Rocky Ripple selling them from 10am-12pm on August 16, 23 and 30. Trees are $25 and come with full care instructions (heads up - it’s not much).

If you go now, you might also be able to snag one from our favorite lady-owned general store, Dear Mom (2121 E 10th Street, Indianapolis IN 46201). They have five trees to sell. I’m hoping this is just the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship. Stay tuned.

My nursery distributor’s license has meant I can now support folks who are creating their gardens with plant sales! This client was looking for a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant planting scheme that incorporates lots of natives. I’ve come to realize that working with visuals like this gives the client a real sense of what’s possible. Check it out.

Before…

The plan…

Interested in a consult? Here’s what you can expect:

An onsite, hour-long visit is followed up by a mood board/mockup of your garden along with a pitch deck of plants with pricing. If you buy plants from me I will also include another hour of careful planning in the garden, using a system I developed to put the client in the driver’s seat when it’s time to design. I will also deliver your plants and leave you to the planting if you want to save money on labor. If you need help with labor I can do that or I can refer you to folks who can.

This is my favorite part of the business since it incorporates what I’ve learned about how to teach caregiving as a nurse to first time moms and it also incorporates what I’ve learned about the power of the creative process as an audio storyteller and creative non-fiction writer. I love to see my clients get wowed by a vision they have a part in creating. Is there anything more encouraging than believing something better is possible?

Keep following on Instagram and Facebook for the latest. I hope you are holding up well. All the very best,

  • Amy
